Chihuahua news, updates and a countdown because everyone was begging for one... hah!

*Chihuahua dies defending child.*

Yeah, you read right. I found this article in my research for tonight's blog and thought it would be something cool, but sad at the same time, to read. Go here to read about the Chihuahua hero.

Oh and I also found an updated picture on our heart-patched Chihuahua from the cuteness countdown:

From further investigation, this dog is actually Japanese! And his name is Heart-kun; how appropriate. He came from a litter in Japan and is actually a long-haired. Although the breeder has bred over 1,000 Chis, she had never had another dog with the heart-shaped patch like so but guess what: another one popped out with the same marking. That's what the little rat-looking this is at the bottom of the picture. But aren't they cuuute? <3

---

But back to business, here we have our final countdown *cue music*. Though our focus is still on our favorite dog, I thought it would be interesting to know about the human celebrities that like to call the Chi a pet or child, haha. Even though there are a lot more out there such as Hilary Duff, Christina Ricci and Brian Littrell (the dude from the Backstreet Boys), I couldn't find as good of images online. So simmer down! XD

4.

Hey look, it's Paula! Some of you may already know of her Chihuahua fondness, as she mentioned them during an American Idol episode, tripped over one thus rendering her with a broken nose and one of 'em, Tulip, was rushed to the vet for some joint problems. Oh yes, crazy people need pets too ;).

3.

I remember reading an article right before the opening of, "Iron Man 2" about Mickey's rant on today's actors and how dumb they are and all he does is stay quiet and hang out with his Chihuahuas. It is always the manliest of men that tend to fall for the Chi. But here in his hand is Loki, his partner in crime and best bud. Unfortunately, Loki died last year at the age of 18. Rest in peace, li'l one!

2.
Sooo here we have Madonna and Chiquita. I've read on a bunch of sites that Madge is credited for starting the Chi trend among the celebrities since Poodles and Yorkies remained a favorite during the mid 20th century with the likes of Audrey Hepburn. I think Chiquita even made it in a book with her owner decked in black vinyl. Oh the things we do with and for our dogs...

1.Hah! This pic makes me smile. Here is America's original sweetheart: Marilyn Monroe and Choo Choo. I never knew Marilyn was the Chi type but now that I think about it, they're perfect for her.

Cha Cha Cha!

Hi hi! Welcome back. Well I kind of decided to take a break from the usual and so no countdown today. Yeah yeah, I know we are all so upset about that.

First off I would like to share a video with you that I could not get out of my head for about a week. Do not worry, I do not think you personally would achieve the same effect that I did when I saw it... though I am not making any promises. This video actually inspired me to write this blog and contributed to a lot of elements of it, i.e. the name, "Cha Cha" and the, "I come from Mexico" part. I cannot tell you who sang or wrote or composed this song... simply because I really do not know ;P. Have fun!

Was that not great?! Even non-Chi lovers love it. Makes you think twice about wanting to punt one out the window, right? You can find the lyrics to the song on the Youtube page where I acquired the video; just search "cha cha cha chihuahua."

---

Next we have a video from Animal Planet's show, "Dogs 101." Each episode talks about three or four dogs regarding health, history, habits, etc. Plus they show tons of puppy shots so it makes it all good.

(Sorry I couldn't get the embed code... :/)

Ya' hear that? Largest brain relative to its size! Though sometimes when I look at my own Chihuahua, Nacho, I wonder if size actually means smarts...

I mean, doesn't that face scream rhode scholar to you?

---

Next on the list, we have a tiny dog with a HUGE talent... or bladder, whatever you want to call it...

I wish my dog would hold it for that long. I do not know if I am crazy or not but I swear that the dog and his owners are from Austin, Texas. All the better! Yee-freaking-haw!

And I'm spent!

Ohhh, Chihuahua!

Hello, people. I am back once again and yes, another top five countdown for our Chihuahua-loving pleasure. This time I am here with some of our more well-known cute and cuddly canines that you might see via movies or television. Though there are more famous Chis out there, and I am sorry I left out "Wheely Willy"--the fictional paraplegic Chihuahua; I decided to stick with the dogs which left more of a dent in pop culture.

So here we go:

5.
As much as I tried and tried and researched to include any other Chi, I had to include the well-known Tinkerbell; owned and pampered by America's pride and joy: Paris Hilton. Apparently she has a partner in crime named Bambi but I am making an exception for only ONE of a celebutante's accessories. I think at one point Tinkerbell went missing for like a day but if I had my own mansion for a dog house, I'd wanna come back too! I also really liked the parody of Paris and Tink portrayed in the show, "South Park." Y'all can probably find it easily on the Youtube.

4.
Ah, Ren Hoek from our favorite 1990s "kid's" show: "Ren and Stimpy." Not much I can say about Ren other than that the show was pretty disgusting.

3.
So some of you might be stumped about this specific famous Chihuahua, but Boo Boo here was considered the world's smallest dog in 2007 by the Guinness Book of World Records. Here she is pictured with the tallest dog in the world: a Great Dane named Gibson. She had been going up against another small, smooth-coated Chi named Ducky. But Boo Boo beat out Ducky for the smallest by a mere .6 inches in height. Although--DUN! DUN! DUN!--Ducky in fact weighs less with an average weight of 1.4 pounds; Boo Boo weighs 1.5 pounds. Such a fatty.

2.
Oh yes I did! Here we have Bruiser, a.k.a. Moonie, from everyone's favorite movie: "Legally Blonde." This Chi is cute as a button and probably the most stylish, all thanks to the fashion savviness of Elle Woods. Anyone up for a "Legally Blonde 3" anytime soon?

1.
And finally... the most famous of them all: Gidget, the Taco Bell dog. Now see, as a almost graduate of advertising, I believe that the usage of this dog and the tagline: "Yo Quiero Taco Bell" is probaby some of the best advertising I have ever seen. Usually when people see a Chihuahua, they always say: "Oh look, a Taco Bell dog!" Now tell me that that's not good branding: associating the whole breed that is your spokesdog with the restaurant. But I guess we'll never see the ressurection of this great campaign. Poor Gidg' died in 2009 T_T. May she rest in peace.
Ugh, now I've worked myself up!

Things that make you go, "Awwww!!"

Okay, the countdown has finally come. Well, at least one of them anyway. In this post, I would like to celebrate the, "Awww!" and "Iwantit!!1!" factor of when a person gazes at a Chi puppy... or at least a cute Chi anyway. And get excited: an loldogs picture even made it!

Let's begin!

5.
God, really?! I mean, it is not even fair! I thought it would be safe to start with a puppy picture because, well, it is a puppy. Who does not like puppies? I feel like it is giving me a look saying, "Yeah, I know I'm precious... now get me my slippers!" If only they stayed this small... oh wait, they kind of do.

4.
Okay, I have been seeing this pup circulate the google images circuit for quite some time. I wanna say this dog is a bit older by now and that heart may be a few centimeters bigger... But I included it because it is not every day you come across a dog with a heart patch on it. C'mon!!! Don't'cha wanna rub it for good luck or maybe even just outright steal the dog?

3.
I know what you are thinking: is this thing even real?! I admit, I did squeal when it popped up but then caught myself wondering, "Wait a minute, this better not be a toy!" I mean it is fuzzy, small and looks a little sweeter than the last one. Maybe it is telling me, "Hello. I like cheese." Ugh, people, I promise I am not a crazy dog-lady. I just want ONE Chihuahua farm when I am retired... that's it! :D

2.
Granted, I have seen some cuter Chis but I think the picture, circumstance and caption just work so well together. What would you think he is in for, a DUI? Prancing on the wrong side of the road? I can tell with that pink sweater and rhinestone collar that he is gonna be a favorite on the inside!

1.
Now try to tell me with a straight face you did not squeal at this! I seriously tried to not come up with a bunch of costumed dog pictures for this countdown but, you know, there are always exceptions to the rule. And this one, puh-lease! Not even cat people could hate this picture. Once my boyfriend took a look at it he wished that there were creatures that actually looked like that--as in: fuzzy Chihuahua bears holding plush microphones that average around five inches in height. At least, I think that is a microphone... But I do want that costume for myself.

---
Okay, that's the end. 'Til next time! Oh and here is a Web site for all your Chihuahua merchandise needs.

Hola!

Welcome to the blog all about the smallest dog in town: the Chihuahua. According to the Dogs 101 show on Animal Planet, this dog is known as the oldest canine in the Americas and used as "hot water bottles" for royalty. I have also read that they were used in funeral services and were possibly eaten; although I can imagine still being hungry after a Chihuahuan feast. But of course in due time, we just decided that they are just too damned cute to be a side dish and they were soon one of humanity's favorite lap dogs. Of course they are known to be ugly, snippy and yippy with a Napoleon complexes but...

Can you resist this face?

They all come in an array of colors, shapes and sizes. Although do not be fooled by the "teacup" description that you might read in the classifieds; the only recognized types of Chis are smooth-coated and long-coated. But of course, the smaller the cuter... which makes them conveniently travel-sized. Five pounds is the apparent AKC cut-off for how much one should weigh. But they can get pretty big; I myself have met one weighing over ten pounds.

But the smaller the Chi, the tastier it will look to other BIGGER animals, a.k.a. a Doberman. And careful about leaving them outside on their own: big birds of prey will see a furry lunch on four legs.

When you will first see your Chi pup, do not be alarmed by its floppy ears! In due time they will eventually stick up for the quintessential radar, yoda-like look. And those paws will only get slightly bigger... just slightly.

Chis are prone to heart murmurs and possible eye infections since those black orbs like to take up about half of their face and they stand so close to the ground. They do have moleras--or rather soft spots--on their heads so be a little careful of those. They stay with 'em forever.

Any further information can be attained via the internet or drop me a line! I will be back for a countdown ;)
